About Us
Welcome to my quilling art studio! I am Lana and I create wall art decor using thin strips of paper and glue.
Quilling or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. The paper is rolled, looped, curled, twisted and otherwise manipulated to create shapes which make up designs. Quilling starts (in most cases) with rolling a strip of paper into a coil and then pinching the coil into shapes that can be glued together. There are advanced techniques and different sized paper that are used to create 3D miniatures, abstract art, flowers and portraits among many things.
When creating a piece every element has its own merit and importance:
- the quality of paper that I use;
- the glue which should work its wonders invisibly;
- the background which will make the design pop;
- the frame will finish off the piece as a whole.
To find the best materials for my works I visit a lot of online and offline shops. I have yards and yards of paper strips in all possible colors and effects. If I don't have the color I have in mind, I won't start the piece until I do. Yes, I am a perfectionist through and through.
The backgrounds are carefully selected too. They have to be beautiful, of course, but only as an addition to the main design.
A beautiful frame is a final and very important element that brings the whole piece together.
There's one more very important element - you! Your ideas and thoughts are the main source for the creation of the masterpiece.
My quilling journey started in 2008. I saw a book with paper designs and fell in love with the intricacy of what a simple paper strip could achieve. I tried making a few cards and it dawned on me - this is me!
But then life happened. Cats, kids, move to the states, new house, dogs... Quilling was forgotten until 2016.
At some point I realised I needed something for myself. Something to keep me sane with 2 kids and at the same time to stay flexible for their busy schedules. Knitting and crocheting didn't hold my attention for long but quilling... I live and breathe quilling.
What happened next was a blur - I made a few frames for my friends and they quite literally made me go public. And here I am! Now quilling is a great part of my life, my zen, my creative hideout.
In last 4 years I participated in almost a hundred events, made about 200 custom orders and sold way too many cards.
To be able to put your incredible ideas to paper I constantly work to make my skills better. Just recently I received my accreditation from the North American Quilling Guild. I read all on the books on quilling, I take classes. And of course, you keep me on my toes with your challenging orders! I do love a good challenge!
It is important to me to make something for you that speaks to you, to your emotions, to your soul. It is important to me to create something for your special friend or family member that they would love forever and appreciate your gift.
Are you ready to create your masterpiece? Send me a message and let's start the journey together!
