FAQ
What is quilling?
Quilling or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. The paper is rolled, looped, curled, twisted and otherwise manipulated to create shapes which make up designs. Quilling starts with rolling a strip of paper into a coil and then pinching the coil into shapes that can be glued together. There are advanced techniques and different sized paper that are used to create 3D miniatures, abstract art, flowers and portraits among many things.
How long does it take to make one frame?
On average a simple 11x14" frame takes about 2 days to make. The more complicated the design, the longer it takes to quill. The longest project I had took me 3 weeks to complete. Please bare in mind the shipping time too, especially these days!
Do all your pieces come framed?
Yes, absolutely! I do not sell my works without a frame. You can decide on the color of the frame and I do my best to meet all your needs.
Will the paper fall off eventually?
No. The quality of glue these days is really high, and I use only the best. There are pieces of quilling in different museums around the world that date centuries and they still look gorgeous. I personally have a piece I made almost 8 years ago, quilling on canvas, not protected by glass or sealant. It still looks good as new.
Will the paper fade?
No. I use only acid-free paper that doesn't fade with time. Unless you put your art piece under constant direct sunlight, the paper won't fade.
Is the quilling protected by glass?
Yes! It makes dusting much-much-much easier. But if you really want your frame without the glass, your wish is my command!
Do you ship your pieces globally?
At present, I only ship within the USA. When the situation with shipping/travelling improves I will start shipping globally again.
Can you do portraits?
No. Unfortunately there's a limit to my talents at the moment. I can do profiles, but not people's portraits.
Do you teach classes?
Yes, I have started giving classes in the local galleries in Fredericksburg, VA. They'll be re-schedule when the world goes back to some sort of normal.
Can I send you a picture of my pet to make into a portrait?
Absolutely! I have made cats, dogs, and horses so far.
